The CueArrena

Not a game.
A world of them.

CueArrena is where real-life games live. Pick one, get a role, and play it with the people actually around you — your friends, your class, your street, your city. Your phone is the controller. Everything else happens for real. New games keep turning up. You just open the app and pick.

Chapter I · How It Plays

You are not
holding the character.

You are the character. The screen tells you who you are and what you want; the room is where you go and get it.

Join

Point your phone, you are in

No lobby code to type out and read aloud twice. Scan whatever the host puts in front of you and you are in the game, on a team, with a job.

Become

You get a part to play

Zombie. Detective. Courier. Traitor. The game hands you a role and a reason to move, and everybody in the room got a different one.

Scan

People are the game pieces

Everyone carries their own CueArr, so scanning a person is a move. Tag them, recruit them, rob them, save them — whatever the game you picked says it means.

Secrets

Nobody sees what you see

Your screen is yours. You might be the only one who knows who the traitor is, or the only one who does not. Half the fun is in the gap.

Chapter II · The Games

One app.
A shelf that keeps filling.

CueArrena is not one game with one set of rules. It is the place a lot of games live — and the list gets longer, not shorter.

Choose

Pick something and go

Open the app, look down the list, start it. Nothing to buy for each one, nothing to install for each one, no evening lost to setting it up.

Range

Ten minutes, or all weekend

A quick round while the kettle boils, or a hunt that runs the length of a festival. Same app, wildly different evenings.

Identity

Your CueArr is your character

The same code on the same shirt is you in every game you ever play. In one you are a target. In the next you are the one everybody is trying to protect.

Ratings

The good ones rise

Games are rated by the people who played them through to the end — so the list reflects what was actually fun, not what had the best description.

New

Something you have not played yet

Games keep arriving. The one your group is obsessed with next month probably has not been made yet.

Made by people

Somebody like you wrote it

These are not all made in-house. Games come from people who had an idea for one — and soon you will be able to be one of them.

Chapter III · Where You Play

Three friends,
or the whole city.

The same game works at every size. What changes is how far you have to run.

Your people

A kitchen table and ten minutes

Three of you, one room, one quick round before dinner. It works just as well small — and small is where most people start.

Your school

A lunch break, a whole year group

Corridors, the yard, the field behind the sports hall. Suddenly everyone knows there is a game on and everyone is watching everyone else.

Your street

The park, the high street, the block

A game that uses the place you already live in. The shortcut you know and they do not turns into an actual advantage.

Everyone

Festivals, conventions, cities

Crowds of strangers who all turn out to be playing the same thing. The bigger it gets, the stranger and better it gets.

Chapter IV · Host One

Somebody has to
start it.

Running a game should take a minute, not an evening. So it does.

Start

Your game, your rules

Pick a game, set how you want it — round length, team sizes, how hard it should be — and open it up.

Invite

Get everybody in

Invite your friends, or let anyone in the room join by scanning. Both work, and you decide which.

Keep order

Kick, or block

Kick somebody out and they can come back. Block them and they cannot. Both are one tap, because the moment you need it is not the moment to go looking for it.

Again

Go again without starting over

End the round, shuffle the teams, start the next one. Nobody has to rejoin, nobody has to re-explain the rules, and the scores carry.

Chapter V · What's Coming

Two things
we are still building.

Both are in development. Neither is live yet — and we would rather say so here than let you find out the hard way.

In development

The Board

A printed sheet of codes that turns into a game board. Because the codes are only codes, the same printed board can be a different game each time you sit down at it — and none of it has to be reprinted. Most CueArrena games do not use a board at all; this is for the ones that want to be played sitting down.

In development

The Workshop

Had an idea for a game? Soon you will be able to write it in a simple scripting language, drop in your own art, and put it in front of everybody else. The developer area is being built now.

The App

The Arena lives
in your pocket.

Your role, your screen, your scanner and the score, all in one place. Point it at somebody and play.
